Bernard Kirk

Bernard is a primary school teacher who is currently director of Galway Education Centre. He co-founded Africa Code Week, the largest digital literacy initiative ever organised on the African continent, engaging over 427,000 young people in  30 countries in year 2 of the program. He is also co-founder and a member of the Global Steering Group of Refugee Code Week which trained over 10,000 refugees in 4 countries in 2016.

 A Science Gallery Leonardo he is also a member of the Science Gallery Education Committee, an Ashoka Change Nation – Change Leader as well as an advisory board member of Changemaker Schools and also The Digital Youth Council.

He founded Robotics Ireland in 2006 and since then he organises the FIRST LEGO League, Junior LEGO League and EA Robotics competitions in Ireland. He is also co-founder of EXCITED the Digital Learning Movement.

He is currently Chairperson of Philanthropy Ireland.

In 2013 he was awarded an Honorary Masters in Science by NUI Galway for his contribution to Education.
